Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 25, 2026
Harbor ("Harbor," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Harbor mobile application and related services at theharbornetwork.com (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Harbor.
1. Information we collect
We collect information in the following categories:
Account and profile information. When you register, we collect your email address, username, password (stored securely by our authentication provider), display name, date of birth, profile photo, cover image, bio, and other profile details you choose to provide.
Social and community activity. We collect content you create or interact with, including posts, comments, stories, discussions, reactions, bookmarks, communities you join or create, events you organize or RSVP to, and warm introduction requests you send or receive.
Messages. We process direct messages, community chats, and group room messages so we can deliver them to recipients. Message content is stored to provide the messaging feature, sync across your devices, and enforce our policies.
Contacts (optional). If you grant permission, we may access contact information from your device to help you find people you know on Harbor. We use contact data to generate search terms for friend suggestions; we do not sell your address book.
Location (optional). With your permission, we may collect approximate or precise location to show nearby communities and events on Harbor Map, attach places to communities or events, and improve local discovery. You can disable location access in your device settings.
Photos, camera, and media. When you create posts, stories, or profile media, we collect the images and videos you upload. Media may be processed and stored by our hosting providers for delivery and playback.
Payment information. If you purchase event tickets or connect a payout account as an organizer, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We receive transaction metadata (such as ticket status and amounts) but do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.
Device and usage information. We automatically collect technical data such as device type, operating system, app version, IP address, push notification tokens, crash logs, and how you interact with the Service (for example, feeds viewed and buttons tapped) to operate, secure, and improve Harbor.
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you
- Provide feeds, communities, messaging, introductions, events, search, and map features
- Deliver push notifications and in-app alerts you enable
- Process payments and event ticketing through our payment partners
- Personalize your experience, including suggestions for people, communities, and content
- Monitor, detect, and prevent spam, abuse, fraud, and security incidents
- Enforce our Terms of Service and community standards
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests
- Analyze usage to improve performance, reliability, and product design
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in these situations:
- With other users. Information you post publicly or share within a community (profile, posts, event details, community membership) is visible to other users according to your settings and the feature you use.
- Service providers. We use trusted vendors to host infrastructure, authenticate users, deliver media, send email, process payments, provide maps, and operate push notifications. These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users, investigate abuse, or defend our rights.
- Business transfers. If Harbor is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
Key providers. Harbor currently relies on providers such as Supabase (authentication and realtime), cloud hosting (including Railway), Cloudflare (media delivery), Stripe (payments), Mapbox (maps), and Apple/Google (where you choose third-party sign-in). Their handling of data is also governed by their own policies.
4. Your choices and rights
- Account settings. You can update your profile, privacy settings, and notification preferences in the app.
- Permissions. You can revoke camera, photo library, contacts, location, or notification permissions in your device settings.
- Blocking and reporting. You can block users and report content or accounts that violate our policies.
- Account deletion. You may delete your account in Settings. Deletion releases your username and email for reuse and removes or anonymizes your data subject to legal retention requirements.
- Marketing email. You can unsubscribe from promotional emails using the link in those messages. Transactional emails (such as verification and security notices) may still be sent.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us at [email protected] to make a request.
5. Data retention
We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and comply with law. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
6. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure authentication. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children
Harbor is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at [email protected] and we will take steps to delete it. Users between 13 and the age of majority in their jurisdiction should use Harbor only with parental or guardian permission where required by law.
8. International users
Harbor is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection laws than your home country.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app, by email, or by posting a notice on our website. The "Effective date" at the top reflects the latest revision. Continued use after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy.
